What is coaching?

Coaching is a partnership, an invitation to explore options and opportunities, and a method that yields solutions which produces sustained change. According to the International Coach Federation, coaching is, “partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential, which is particularly important in today’s uncertain and complex environment”.

As the Head Coach at The Erika Monaé Group, my goal is to honor you as the expert in your life and give you permission to be authentically yourself. Yes, I will hold you accountable to your goals, motivate you, challenge you to be great, and be your sounding board.  What’s most important to me is that you discover your strengths and values and use them to help you shine your brightest with a strong sense of self. This is how you will reclaim the power over your professional life.

What’s the difference between coaching and therapy?

If a person that feels psychologically stressed to the point that it is interfering with their ability to function, they should seek the help that they need in the form of a professional counselor or clinician. While coaching may augment therapy, it is not a replacement for therapy.

Coaching is:

  • Goal oriented and future focused – looking at the present and helping you move forward to where you want to be.
  • Performed when major emotional and psychological wounds are healing or healed – helps you manage the impact those wounds have on your life.

Therapy is:

  • Based in understanding and self reflection – looking at your history and helping you recognize what caused the wound(s) and why they continue to remain open.
  • Performed when major emotional and psychological wounds are open and need to be healed – helps you to clean the wound (clearing out the dirt and mess and taking care of it over time).

What age range do you work with?

My target audience are new professionals and emerging leaders. That can be anyone who was born in 1977 or 1991, a first time leader or at director level, five years of professional experience or a recent college graduate. This is large audience but it’s intentional. This audience has the most power and influence to change the workforce into a better one for the next generation and this aligns with the vision for The Erika Monaé Group.

While I want to be able to serve those that have the greatest impact to transform the future workforce, I will not limit myself to serving a particular generation; everyone has value to bring to the table when making this world a better place. Therefore, there is no age range. I do not place an age requirement on who I work with. If who I am and what The Erika Monaé Group represents resonates with you, you are in the right place.

I’m an entrepreneur… do you only work with leaders & professionals that work for other organizations?

My clients are professional men and women that are juggling careers and/or businesses, family, and life in general, which includes entrepreneurs! Entrepreneurial clients are looking for (and need) an outlet for support in their life and professional journeys. I always conduct a discovery session before beginning work with any new client, so if you’re interested in seeing if we might be a good fit, schedule that right here.

How do I know if coaching is right for me?

Coaching, whether it’s personal, professional, or leadership coaching, is not for everyone. While personal development is linked to your professional growth, you must be ready to stand in your truth and make the necessary personal changes in order to transform and enrich your overall professional life. The best way to know is to set up a discovery session.  If you feel like you’re ready to commit to making positive changes in your professional life, I would love to work with you! Schedule your discovery session right here.

Why did you become a coach?

Great question – Go to the About EMG page, under my picture, to find out!

I’ve heard coaching is kind of expensive – What makes it worth the investment?

Coaching can be expensive and I am open to discussing flexible pay arrangements for those that are serious about making the investment.  Now, what makes it worth the investment is YOU. You have a light to shine and you are extremely valuable in this world. Your peace and happiness is worth it.  Your life is worth it.  You are worth it!

How long do most clients work with you?

This varies – as everyone’s needs and reasons in engaging in coaching are different. It’s hard work to change habits, behaviors and perspectives. Engaging in coaching is a serious commitment. It’s a commitment to the coaching process that requires your intentional effort and time on your journey of becoming more self-aware and disciplined. Go to the Services page to check out the packages offered that can meet your needs.

What can I expect through my sessions?

You can expect a guided, collaborative process to find your own answers and we’ll work together to help you create sustainable change. I’m sure you want a coach to just tell you what to do but, I am not the one living out your workday – you are. You are the only person who can decide what is right for you! I do have expertise that will serve you in finding those answers. There will be times when I’ll share information, offer a different perspective, suggest resources, and help you brainstorm options. However, you are the ultimate decision maker for your life.

Since coaching is not a one-size-fits-all process, I’ll start with any milestones as well as challenges faced and progress made from the previous session. Then, you’ll set the agenda and tone for the remainder of the session. You can decide to focus on one area for several sessions or change the focus area in every session.

Clients will be asked to complete tasks between sessions in an effort to accomplish goals, maintain engagement, and shifts in perspective and behavioral patterns.  I am always excited to hear any updates that you are happy to share with me between sessions as well.

What should I expect after our time together is over?

This could look different for each person as it depends on what we outlined as your goals in the beginning. During your final scheduled coaching session, we will discuss your progress and next steps.  Once you’ve achieved your goals and we have concluded our coaching relationship, I encourage clients to sign up for VIP care packages with me.

VIP care packages are monthly or quarterly calls, or an annual VIP visit to stay on track with the progress you’ve made. Also, you will already be a part of the EMG community – so you will continue receive regular updates and newsletters delivered to you inbox.  I love to stay connected with clients over social media, as well!

Where do we meet for our sessions?

I can conduct sessions remotely (phone, Skype, etc.) or in-person. My clients have extremely busy personal and professional lives. Therefore, remote sessions work into their already crazy schedule.  Some clients enjoy meeting face to face, at a mutually agreed upon location, and I always love to see my clients in person!  Sometimes it’s a mix – I’m flexible, and hope you are too!

Can I talk to a past client for a reference before signing up?

The foundation of a dynamic and trusting Coach/Client relationship is confidentiality. Due to the nature of this work, I am unable to provide names of clients as references.  However, you’re welcome to read any testimonials that clients have written throughout my website.

Do you only work with individuals?

While my coaching work is primarily with individuals, I do offer group coaching sessions (not to exceed 3 people). Corporate work is also considered, depending upon your needs. I’d love to know more about why you are asking and how I could be of assistance. Go to our Contact Us page and submit your question and I’ll get back to you as soon as I can!

Do you offer any workshops or training sessions?

Absolutely – I would be honored to collaborate with you. I’d love to hear what you have in mind, what you’re learning objectives are, and who your audience is. We can create something that will really have a lasting impact. Simply go to the Contact Us page and submit your information on what you are looking to do. Let’s start collaborating and creating!

I have a question but it’s not listed here, what should I do?

That’s easy!  Just go to the Contact Us page and submit your question and I’ll get back to you as soon as I can! Thanks for being here!
